Red Sox continue considering alternatives to Fort Myers
07:32 AM EDT on Thursday, June 12, 2008
BOSTON -- The search for a possible new spring training site for the Red Sox organization continues.
The city of Sarasota, Fla., which has shown great interest in luring the Sox from Fort Myers, has hired a consulting firm to determine what the economic impact would be if the city became the spring home of the Red Sox.
Yesterday afternoon, the city held a public forum to hear from residents both for and against the move.
It’s believed at least one other Florida city has demonstrated serious interest in the Sox.
To date, no Arizona-based municipalities have come forward, perhaps feeling that the Sox would not want to leave an East Coast-based training site. Indications are the Sox would at least listen to offers from Arizona, but those have yet to be forthcoming.
