Schilling takes the hill, gets ahead on throwing program
06:11 AM EDT on Thursday, June 5, 2008
BOSTON - Curt Schilling wasn’t supposed to throw off a mound until tomorrow, but yesterday, decided to get a jump-start on his throwing program.
Schilling threw 25 pitches — all fastballs — yesterday afternoon as pitching coach John Farrell observed.
“His complaint was he only threw 22 strikes,” said Francona. “He was justifiably excited.”
Schilling didn’t throw any breaking balls. That may take some time.
“He’s still in his arm and shoulder strengthening stage,” said Sox manager Terry Francona.
Next up: 35 pitches, from the mound, tomorrow.
