Youkilis off to an impressive start
08:04 AM EDT on Tuesday, April 15, 2008
CLEVELAND -- Somewhat lost in the focus on David Ortiz's struggles has been the blistering start for Kevin Youkilis.
Last night, Youkilis doubled home the first run in the first inning, homered in the eighth and doubled again in the ninth, knocking in two of the Red Sox’ six runs on the night.
Youkilis has seven RBI in his last five games and over his last three games, he has a total of seven hits in 11 at-bats. For the season, eight of his 18 hits have been for extra bases.
He’s hitting .375 for the year, despite moving all over the batting order to accommodate injuries and slumping teammates.
“He’s just a professional hitter,” said manager Terry Francona in admiration.
