Lowrie will probably make big-league debut tonight with Red Sox

CLEVELAND - Infielder Jed Lowrie is expected to make his major-league debut this evening, probably at third base.
Lowrie, promoted from Pawtucket last week to fill the roster spot vacated by Mike Lowell (DL-thumb), was told Sunday that he would get a chance to play in the series finale here tonight.
“It will be exciting,’ said Lowrie, a former All-American at Stanford. “But I’m just going to approach it like any other day.”
Lowrie’s friends and family are planning to come watch him in New York tomorrow and Thursday, but probably won’t be here for his debut tonight.
A natural shortstop, Lowrie got some playing time at third in spring training and played some at the position in Pawtucket before being called up to Boston.
“The more I work at it,” he said, “the more comfortable I get. It’s a little different (than shortstop) because of the (shorter) reaction time.”
Lowrie has been watching Lowell and Kevin Youkilis at the position and working with infield coach Luis Alicea.
Manager Terry Francona will probably move Youkilis over to first tonight and sit Sean Casey, who has struggled in his career against Cleveland starter Paul Byrd.
