Timlin returns, itching to play
08:05 AM EDT on Friday, April 11, 2008
BOSTON - Mike Timlin will be activated today. The Sox reliever was at his locker at Fenway yesterday afternoon, dressed and ready to pitch.
But, since he has pitched two of the last three days on rehab assignment in Pawtucket, the Sox decided to wait one more day before activating him.
He suffered a laceration on the index finger of his pitching hand during the last spring training game in Florida and needed stitches.
The 42-year-old right-hander said the same thing he spoke about in Pawtucket on Wednesday night: that is, he feels fully healthy and raring to begin his 18th year in the big leagues.
Following the Sox’ 12-6 victory over the Tigers last night, Francona announced that reliever Bryan Corey will be designated for assignment today.
The right-hander is out of options and will have to clear waivers.
He worked in six of the team’s 10 games this season and compiled a 14.54 ERA. After allowing just one run in his first four games, he has surrendered six runs over his last two-thirds of an inning in his last two outings.
On still another front, it looks as if Bartolo Colon (strained oblique), currently on the disabled list with Pawtucket, will get back to work sometime this weekend.
