Kielty still with the Red Sox
07:47 AM EDT on Tuesday, April 1, 2008
OAKLAND - As of late last night, while the Red Sox didn’t have official confirmation, all signs pointed toward outfielder Bobby Kielty remaining with the organization.
Indications were that Kielty would remain at Pawtucket and wait for an opening in Boston rather than go elsewhere.
Kielty had an out in his minor-league deal that allowed him to elect free agency if another major-league opportunity arose. Kielty told reporters Sunday that another team had expressed interest in him and might offer him a major league roster spot. Whether that opportunity failed to materialize or not, Kielty last night appeared to have chosen to stay with the Sox.
“Bobby’s a good fit here,” said manager Terry Francona. “We hope he stays. He does the right things in the clubhouse and on the field.”
