Matsuzaka prepares for second start
07:49 AM EDT on Tuesday, April 1, 2008
OAKLAND - Daisuke Matsuzaka gets his second start of the season tonight, and the Red Sox hope that he’s more efficient than his last time out, when he needed 60 pitches to get through the first two innings.
That early-game workload limited Matsuzaka to five innings, even as he settled into a groove and retired 10 of the final 11 hitters he faced.
The Sox were somewhat buoyed by his weekend side session, during which, over the course of 62 pitches, “the [catcher’s] glove never moved,” according to pitching coach John Farrell.
