Red Sox sign free-agent pitcher from Japan

LOS ANGELES - The Red Sox announced the signing of free-agent right-hander Terumasa Matsuo from the Shikoku Island League, an independent Japanese League. Last year, pitching for Kagawa Olive Guyners, Matsuo was the league MVP, going 15-3 with a 1.72 ERA and a 159 strikeouts in 152 innings.
He’s due to report to Fort Myers to take part in the Sox’ extended spring training program.
