Red Sox in no rush to snag free agents
09:12 AM EST on Friday, February 22, 2008
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Having lost out on free agent Odalis Perez, who chose a similar offer from the Washington Nationals earlier in the week, the Sox continue to monitor the remaining free agents — mostly pitchers — on the market.
Many of the remaining free agents, however, are coming off surgery or other health issues (Freddy Garcia, Bartolo Colon) while a couple of others (Kyle Lohse, Jeff Weaver) are represented by Scott Boras.
The Sox stance is this: if they can add to their pitching depth at a modest-minimal salary cost, they will. Otherwise, they’re content to stand pat.
