July 3 - Major Drought
07:18 AM EDT on Tuesday, October 2, 2007
Julio Lugo threads a seeing-eye single up the middle, delivering two runs in the second inning of an eventual 4-1 win over Tampa Bay at Fenway Park.
So what's the big deal?
That soft single snaps Lugo's 0-for-33 drought, not what you'd expect from a guy who signed a four-year, $36-million deal as a free agent in the offseason.
Lugo goes without a hit from June 14 until July 3, his average dropping to .189 before his slump-breaking single. He also loses his leadoff job along the way, dropped to ninth in the batting order.
