Ortiz's deal is deemed 'premature'
01:00 AM EST on Saturday, April 1, 2006
Reports of David Ortiz reaching agreement with the Red Sox on a 4-year, $50-million contract extension are, in the words of a team official, "premature."
However, talks are continuing and it's possible an extension could be agreed upon soon.
ESPN Deportes reported yesterday on its Web site that Ortiz and the Sox were "finalizing terms" of the deal that would carry through 2010. The report quoted an unnamed source close to Ortiz.
