A’s 5, Red Sox 1: Aardsma continues to make his case
12:19 PM EDT on Wednesday, March 26, 2008
TOKYO — David Aardsma continues to make his case to claim the last spot in the Red Sox bullpen, throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings on Wednesday while allowing only one hit, with three strikeouts.
“I feel like I’ve been improving as the spring’s gone along,” he said. “I’m throwing more strikes and getting ahead. And I’m throwing more first-pitch strikes. Against [the Yomiuri Giants in an exhibition game last weekend] I got behind a couple of guys, but [Wednesday] I threw a lot of strikes.”
His roster status remains uncertain, but Aardsma says he’s able to block out those distractions when he’s on the mound.
“Definitely,” he said. “I’m just trying to focus the way I would during the season — throw strikes, get outs, and the rest should take care of itself.”
