BOSTON – The Twins showed disdain for Manny Ramirez on Wednesday – and he made them pay in more ways than one.

Throughout the series Minnesota pitchers fed Ramirez a steady diet of fastballs, noting he had been struggling entering the series, especially showing an inability to get around on a fastball.

So while Ramirez was inconsistent in that regard in the three games, he had key hits in each of the games.

On Monday night he smacked a single through the right side in the eighth inning, giving the Sox a 1-0 win. On Tuesday night, Ramirez tied the game with a two-run homer in the eighth. And on Wednesday afternoon, Ramirez rifled a pair of doubles and a single, knocking in three runs and scoring a pair.

Defensively, the Twins’ Nick Punto ran on Ramirez, who was playing in the field for the first time since June 29, and he made Punto regret that decision.

Punto was on first with one out in the sixth and Minnesota trailing, 6-5. Brendan Harris lined a pinch-hit single toward left-center.

Ramirez got to the ball in good shape but Punto ran on him anyway. Ramirez spun around and threw quickly and accurately to third baseman Mike Lowell, who slapped a tag on Punto, who sat in the dirt at the bag for a short time before having to make his way into the Twins’ dugout.

Ramirez, standing in left field, pantomimed slamming a six-shooter into a holster after gunning down Punto.

"Manny looked like he was doing his thing, non-chalanting it and Manny’s very deceptive out there and he's very accurate with his throws and he threw it right on the bag," said Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire.
