Adult education classes: The Education Exchange, formerly the Washington County Adult Learning Center, is taking registration for its winter session, which begins Jan. 12 at the Oliver Stedman Government Center, on Route 1, in Wakefield.
Offerings include GED preparation, computer skills, literacy, English as a second language and certification for teacher assistants.

Yacht Restoration School: The International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS) will offer the following opportunities:
Jan. 8 — Orientation on careers and training in the marine industry — CCRI Auditorium-Newport Campus, One John H. Chafee Blvd., from 6 to 8 p.m. The session is geared both toward skilled individuals who want to learn how to apply their experience to marine careers, and to individuals with no prior experience around boats but an interest in entering the field.
Individuals from leading marine businesses in Rhode Island will talk about career paths. Those seeking to enter the industry can learn about the school’s nine-day introductory course, the Marine Trades Training Program, which will be held Feb. 17-27. Developed with support from the United Way of Rhode Island, the course trains students in the basic skills needed to enter the industry and is followed by IYRS Marine Industry Career Day (Feb. 28), where individuals interested in marine careers can connect with area employers. Feb. 28 — Marine Industry Career Day — IYRS Newport Campus, 449 Thames St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS) will host the Fourth Annual Marine Industry Career Day on Saturday, Feb.28. Attendees can meet regional employers — including boat builders, boat yards and marine manufacturers; attend seminars on marine-industry opportunities; get information on careers and training programs; see hands-on demonstrations; and learn about the skills needed to work in the boating business.
