Bernard LaFayette Jr., senior scholar-in-residence at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, will oversee the University of Rhode Island’s Youth Nonviolence Leadership Academy training for certification in Kingian Nonviolence for youths from July 14-17 in Atrium 1 of Memorial Union, 50 Lower College Rd., Kingston. Sponsored by URI’s Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies, the sessions are based on the philosophy and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The $395 tuition fee includes training, meals and three nights of lodging. All youths must be accompanied by a chaperone. The $250 chaperone fee covers food, lodging and training. A $100 nonrefundable deposit is due upon registration. All registration forms and fees must be received by June 15. Hillel, the Jewish student organization at the University of Rhode Island, will break ground on the Norman M. Fain Hillel Center, its first permanent home on campus. The public is invited to the ceremony that will take place at 6 Fraternity Circle, Kingston, June 18 at noon. A reception will follow at the ADPi Sorority House, 5 Fraternity Circle. The Center for Technology and Industry at New England Institute of Technology will hold AutoCAD training seminars in AutoCAD Fundamentals on June 5, 3D Drawing with AutoCAD 2009 on June 8, AutoCAD Architecture 2009 on June 9, Autodesk Inventor on Jun 12 and AutoCAD Update on June 26.
