Summer has arrived for the windsurfers who are regulars at Fogland Beach, a waterfront neighborhood on the Sakonnet River in south Tiverton.

The bucolic neighborhood is a bit south of the Tiverton Four Corners historic district, and is near the town’s border with Little Compton.

Ferolbink Farms, a working 145-acre vegetable and Christmas tree farm, is the neighborhood’s commercial enterprise, and it is at the entry point to the neighborhood, Pond Bridge Road.

The neighborhood also includes the Fogland Marsh Preserve, a tidal estuary owned by The Nature Conservancy. Nonquit Pond is to the east of the neighborhood.

When the weather is a bit warmer, Fogland Beach is also popular with sunbathers, and it has changing rooms, showers and a small children’s playground. But windsurfers can be found at Fogland Beach even in the winter, according to real estate agent Jainsworth Cern of Shethar Real Estate in Little Compton. Cern has two houses listed for sale in Fogland Village.

“It’s a very desirable neighborhood,” she said. “It’s very quiet. It’s very peaceful, and the views are gorgeous.”

She said Fogland includes a mix of house sizes and styles, and many of the smaller cottages in the village have been purchased and renovated in recent years.

There were just five properties listed for sale last week in the neighborhood, ranging from $199,000 to more than $2.6 million.

The $199,000 price is for a 692-square-foot cottage built in 1957 at 2 Ronnie St. The vinyl-sided house has five rooms, including two bedrooms and one bath.

The highest-priced house for sale is at 561 Neck Rd., now on the market for $2,650,000. The 3,858-square-foot contemporary-style house has four bedrooms, three full baths, one half-bath, and is on “almost 3 waterfront acres at the end of a private lane”, according to the listing information.

One of the most expensive residential sales in Tiverton was a Fogland Beach residence, the Lighthouse at 263 High Hill Rd., which sold for $4.4 million in May of 2006.

The distinctive house is at the top of a rocky point just south of Fogland Beach. The 1.75-acre property was sold by photographer DeWitt Clinton Clemens to Leeshore Realty, LLC.

POPULATION: (Tiverton, 2000) 15,260

MEDIAN HOUSE PRICE: (Tiverton, 2008) $230,000

INTERESTING FACT: The protected Fogland Marsh Preserve provides a habitat for herons and egrets, and is a nursery ground for a variety of fin- and shellfish.
