You can buy a shiny new plate01:00 AM EST on Sunday, November 11, 2007Q. What is the procedure for replacing a single license plate that is damaged or scratched (possibly as the result of an accident) that is readable but just looks lousy? A. You can request a remake of your plate at any one of our DMV branch offices or at any AAA office (if you are a member). Fees associated with any plate remake vary by plate type — for instance, a remake of a “sailboat” or alternate design plate is more expensive than a standard “wave” plate. Vanity remakes cost more than a regular plate. For a table showing remake fees, you can visit our Web site at www.dmv.ri.gov/vanity/ specialty_plates.php. Gina Antonucci Zanni, chief of communications for the State Division of Motor Vehicles, has agreed to answer questions of general interest posed by Journal readers about state motor vehicle laws and procedures. To ask a question that would also be of interest to other readers, send a letter to Ask projoCars, Features Department, The Providence Journal, 75 Fountain St., Providence, RI, 02902. You can e-mail your question to projocars@projo.com. Please put “Ask projoCars” in the subject field. Questions or complaints of a specific nature should be posed to the DMV directly and will not be answered in this column. |
