Route 295 bridges are slated for repaving

01:00 AM EDT on Sunday, August 17, 2008

Q. I am a frequent traveler of Route 295 from Warwick north to the Massachusetts line. In my travels I must drive over a number of bridges both in the northbound and southbound lanes. The bridge pavement appears to be breaking up. When can we expect to see improvements made to the decking of these bridges?

A. RIDOT is currently repaving two stretches of Route 295: Route 95 in Warwick to Wilbur Avenue in Cranston and Scott Road in Cumberland to the Massachusetts line. The new pavement and striping will be laid down on both the northbound and southbound sides of Route 295. Approximately 14 bridges, in both directions, will also be receiving new driving surfaces. The bridges that will be resurfaced are along the entire length of Route 295. All of this work is expected to be completed by the end of September. When this phase of this project is finished all of Route 295 will have a new driving surface.

Ramps would help Quonset industry

Q. The extension of Route 403 into Quonset Point is moving along. Once completed, direct highway access from Route 4 into Quonset will facilitate use of the industrial park. However, without ramps from Route 4 northbound to Route 95 southbound, and from Route 95 northbound to Route 4 southbound, there is no direct connection to the Interstate Highway System. Are there any plans by the DOT to construct these ramps?

— David L. A. RIDOT does have a conceptual plan to eventually build ramps from Route 4 North to Route 95 South, and from Route 95 North to Route 4 South, however this project is on hold until funding becomes available.

Currently, there are ramps from Route 95 South to Route 4 South and Route 4 North to Route 95 North, both in Warwick, and the new ramps would enhance a driver’s maneuverability in this area.
