Feline escape artist named Loco looking for attention, room to run

Okay, I’m a character. I ooze personality. I’m an oversized bundle of love, a cat who is afraid of nothing. I can leap tall buildings in a single bound, I’m faster than a locomotive and yes, you can call me Super Cat. I’m up for the job.

Long ago, when I was a kitten adopted from craigslist, my name was Charlie. One of my human’s friends changed it to “Loco,” because I loved to run around the house. I admit, once in a while the need for speed would overtake me and I would race wildly through the rooms.

Now I’m 3½ years old and a bit more sedate, but I still wouldn’t mind a speedy run around the house. Sometimes a guy just needs to work off a little extra energy.

My talents are many, but my ability to escape from my cage is legendary. I’ve opened doors, unhooked latches, performed miraculous tricks with my paws. The ladies at the shelter were pretty surprised when I greeted them at the door several mornings, before they figured out my Houdini-like maneuvers.

I jump out of my cage at any opportunity to play with one of you silly humans. I steal Q-tips. And I shred toilet paper. But I’m very affectionate and cuddly. I will sleep in your bed with you, and I will soak up any and all attention you want to give me.

Don’t be surprised if I jump in the shower with you. I’m fearless, except when it comes to small children. The sight of them sends me under the bed, so please, let me live with older kids who won’t frighten me with their high-pitched voices.

I’m here because the new baby was allergic to cats, which is sad. I lived with cats — a younger male and an older male — so I am accustomed to sharing the limelight with other critters. I’m good in my carrier, like to be brushed and I really, really love meeting new people.

I’m healthy and up-to-date with my shots, but I do require a special food to ensure I don’t have urinary problems. Prevention is everything, the vet says.

So here I am, a big black cat with golden eyes and a huge personality. I’ve been stuck here in the shelter for over six months now and I’m ready to get out of here and shake things up in a new home. Are you ready for a little excitement?

If so, come to the Animal Rescue League of Southern Rhode Island, at 506B Curtis Corner Road in South Kingstown, or call (401) 783-7606. We’re open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SWEET CHEEKS, the brown tiger kitty who has resided at the shelter for the past 18 months, will be going to her new home this week. Break out the champagne!

RECENT ADOPTIONS: Coby, a middle-aged gentleman Pekingese, went to his new home to live with an elderly Border Collie and two little girls. He was quite thrilled with all of the attention.

Zosia, the yellow Lab you read about last week, has been adopted and wants to thank everyone who made that possible.

WE HAVE KITTENS! We have lots of kittens, actually. Another litter was left at the door a few days ago, so please come meet the babies. They need homes!
