College basketball: Marshon Brooks, PC’s leading scorer, day-to-day

PROVIDENCE — Marshon Brooks, Providence College’s leading scorer after the opening three games of the season, is still nursing a sore ankle. Brooks twisted his foot in Sunday’s win over Mercer.

Brooks did not practice with the Friars on Tuesday and was limited in Wednesday’s workout. Coach Keno Davis said he considers Brooks “day-to-day” as he continues to receive treatment. “I’m still hopeful that Marshon will be able to go on Friday.”

PC will travel to Alabama on Thursday and play the Crimson Tide Friday night at 8. Alabama bounced back from a season-opening home loss to Cornell with a win over Jackson State on Tuesday.

In other news, one of the Friars’ top recruits has begun his prep season in style. Joe Young, a dynamic shooter from Houston’s powerful Yates High, scored 33 of his team’s whopping total of 140 points in his team’s first game. Yates is rated eighth nationally in USA Today’s preseason poll, and is ranked fourth by MaxPreps.com.
