PC's recruiting class grows with addition of guard Vincent Council

CINCINNATI -- KenoDavis’ first recruiting class continues to blossom. The latest addition is Vincent Council, a 6-1 guard from Brooklyn who is prepping at the number-one-ranked postgraduate school in the country, Patterson School, in Lenoir, N.C.

Council verbally committed to the Friars on Tuesday. He can sign a letter of intent in April. He joins five recruits who signed with the Friars’ program in November. They are guards Johnnie Lacy and Duke Mondy, junior college shooter Kyle Wright and prep forwards Kadeem Batts and James Still.

Council brings true point guard skills to the class. While Lacy is listed as a point guard, he is known mostly for his scoring ability. Council is more of a floor leader and two-way guard who’ll compete with Lacy and holdover Curry for playing time next season. Council said he chose PC over Rutgers, Central Florida, South Florida and Arkansas.

“I’m excited to get the process over,” Council said. “I think I fit in with the style that Providence plays. I play defense to get my offense going, but I will score if I have to.”

Council hasn’t had to score big numbers for a few seasons now. Back home in Brooklyn, he played alongside Lance Stephenson, a high-scoring guard who is regarded as the best player in the city for Lincoln High. Now at Patterson, Council is averaging 10 points and 9 assists a game for a team with nearly a dozen Division I players. Patterson owns a 20-0 record and will play at the National Prep Invitational at URI from Feb. 5-8.
