Hockey: Sophomore New helps Friars to tie with Huskies
PROVIDENCE — Sophomore defenseman Daniel New scored two goals and added one assist as Providence College rallied to tie Northeastern, 3-3, Saturday night in a Hockey East game at Schneider Arena.

College basketball notes: Memphis will do just fine without Calipari
John Calipari may have left town but the NBA-level recruits are still flocking to Memphis. New coach Josh Pastner (a Coach Cal assistant) took over and kept chasing the same players Calipari wanted when he had the job. The results are nothing less than spectacular and will keep Memphis as the dominant Conference USA team for years.

PROVIDENCE –– The Brown University women’s hockey team defeated Providence College, 5-1, Sunday in the 15th annual Mayor’s Cup at Schneider Arena. Five straight unanswered goals by Brown led the way and Bears goaltender Katie Jamieson made 31 saves.
