P-Bruins 4, Devils 2: Scoring balance, Sabourin lead the way

PROVIDENCE — Four players scored goals and Dany Sabourin stopped 29 of 31 shots as the Providence Bruins defeated the Lowell Devils, 4-2, on Friday night at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

After a scoreless opening period, the P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 6:45 mark of the second period while on a power play. Jeff Penner took a shot from the left point that deflected to Mikko Lehtonen, who scored his third goal of the season.

Providence made it 2-0 at the 9:55 mark. Jeff LoVecchio banked the puck off the glass through the neutral zone for Lehtonen, who found Trent Whitfield crashing the net, and Whitfield tallied his third goal of the season.

Lowell cut its deficit in half at the 5:06 mark of the third period while on a 5-on-3 power play. Tyler Eckford netted his first goal of the season.

The P-Bruins took a two-goal lead at 11:58. Brad Marchand held the puck in the corner and fed Whitfield in the slot. Whitfield found Vladimir Sobotka in front of the net, and he tallied his second goal of the season.

The P-Bruins made it 4-1 at the 16:43 mark while on a 5-on-3 power play. Sobotka held the puck behind the net and sent it to Lehtonen halfway up the boards. Lehtonen found Andy Wozniewski just inside the blue line, and he netted his second goal of the season.

Lowell got back within two goals at the 18:37 mark while on a power play. Matthew Corrente scored his first goal of the season, with Rob Davison and Michael Swift picking up the assists.

Mike McKenna made 38 saves for the Devils. The P-Bruins were 2-for-9 on the power play and 6-for-8 on the penalty kill.
