HERSHEY, Pa. — Jamie Arniel scored a goal and an assist and Dany Sabourin made 24 saves to lead the Providence Bruins past the defending Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears, 4-1, on Wednesday night before 9,419 fans at the Giant Center.

The Bears took a 1-0 lead at 7:29 of the opening period when Boyd Kane tallied his sixth goal of the season, assisted by Alexandre Giroux and John Carlson.

The P-Bruins tied the game at the 13:39. Andrew Bodnarchuk worked the puck out of his own zone and found Adam McQuaid in the neutral zone. He skated the puck into the slot and put a shot on net. The rebound landed on the stick of Kirk MacDonald, who netted his sixth goal of the season.

Providence took its first lead on Drew Larman’s goal at 16:45. Guillaume Lefebvre held the puck behind the Bears net and worked it to the point for Alain Goulet. He shot the puck toward the goal, where it was tipped into the net by Larman for his second goal of the season. After a scoreless second period, the P-Bruins took a two-goal advantage at 4:38 of the third period. After stealing the puck at center ice, Arniel went in alone and beat Hershey’s Michal Neuvirth to the top shelf for his seventh goal of the season. Arniel has goals in six straight games.

The P-Bruins finished the scoring with an empty-net goal by Brad Marchand, assisted by Arniel, at 18:41 of the third. It was Marchand’s seventh goal.

Sabourin stopped 24 of 25 shots for the P-Bruins, while Neuvirth made 27 saves for the Bears. The P-Bruins were 0-for-5 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The P-Bruins return to The Dunk on Friday against Worcester at 7:05 p.m.
