Micflikier’s hat trick leads Albany to 4-1 win over P-Bruins

PROVIDENCE –– Albany’s Jacob Micflikier torched his former University of New Hampshire teammate Kevin Regan for a hat trick to lead the River Rats to a 4-1 win over the Providence Bruins before 7,257 fans at the Dunkin Donuts Center.

The River Rats scored first when Jerome Samson tallied his 15th goal of the season, assisted by Jamie McBain, at 11:43 of the first period.

Albany made it 2-0 at the 5:40 mark of the second period on Micflikier’s seventh goal of the season, assisted by Stefan Chaput.

The River Rats extended their lead to 3-0 at 1:42 mark of the third period when Mickflikier scored, assisted by McBain.

Providence got on the board at 8:07. Alain Goulet held the puck behind his own net, before passing it up ahead to Zach Hamill, who sent LoVecchio in on a breakaway. The first-year winger beat Albany’s Justin Peters for his 10th goal.

Albany finished the scoring with a power play goal at the 13:15 mark. Micflikier netted his third goal of the game and ninth of the season, from McBain and Jay Harrison.

Regan stopped 32 of 36 shots for the P-Bruins, while Peters made 29 saves for the River Rats. The P-Bruins were 0-for-2 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.

After a few days off for the AHL All-Star Game, the P-Bruins next game is Friday at The Dunk against the Lowell Devils at 7:05 p.m. NOTES: Defenseman Andy Wozniewski was returned by the Boston Bruins and played on Sunday. . . . Mikko Lehtonen will be in the starting lineup for PlanetUSA at the All-Star game. He replaced Norfolk’s Brandon Bochenski, who will miss the game because he was recalled by Tampa Bay.
