Wolf Pack shut down P-Bruins

HARTFORD — Dane Byers scored 1:50 into the game, Brodie Dupont added a goal and an assist in the third period and Miika Wiikman stopped 37 shots as the Hartford Wolf Pack blanked the Providence Bruins, 3-0, last night at the XL Center.
Providence heads into the All-Star break eight points ahead of the second-place Portland Pirates.
The Wolf Pack quickly got on the board in the opening period as Ryan Callahan took a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle and the puck was deflected into the net by Byers for his 12th goal of the season. Andy Hutchinson recorded the assist as Hartford took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
After a scoreless second period, the Wolf Pack added a goal at the 10-minute mark of the third period. Dupont tallied his sixth goal of the season off a shot from the left faceoff circle. Tom Pyatt and Lauri Korpikowski picked up the assists.
Hartford added an empty net goal with 24 seconds left in the game as Mike Ouellette scored his third goal of the season with Byers and Greg Moore grabbing the assists. The Wolf Pack went on to the 3-0 victory.
Jordan Sigalet stopped 18 of 20 shots for the P-Bruins, while Miika Wiikman made 37 saves for the Wolf Pack.
The P-Bruins were 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins now are off until Saturday. Their next home game is Sunday, Feb. 3 against the Worcester Sharks at 2:05 p.m. 3 0 Next Game Feb. 2 at Portland, 7:05 p.m.
