WORCESTER, Mass. — Providence tied the score with 21.7 seconds left in regulation on a goal by Alexandre Imbeault, but after a scoreless overtime the P-Bruins lost in the shootout, 4-3, against the Worcester Sharks last night at the DCU Center.

The only goal of the opening period came on a short-handed situation when Pascal Pelletier took a pass in the high slot from Vladimir Sobotka and shot it off Sharks goalie Thomas Greiss at 8:39. Adam McQuaid also had an assist on the play.

Worcester tied it early in the second period on Dan Spang’s shot from the right faceoff circle. Former P-Bruin Dennis Packard picked up the assist. It was Spang’s fifth goal of the season.

The Sharks took their first lead of the game at the 11:28 mark, while on the power play. Derek Joslin scored his fifth goal of the season, with Devon Setoguchi and Tom Cavanaugh recording the assists.

Providence tied the game at 2-2 while on a power play at the 14:52 mark. Matt Hunwick worked the puck from the left point to Imbeault along the left boards, and he fed it to Martins Karsums in the corner. Karsums was trying to pass the puck to Pelletier, who was waiting backdoor, but the puck went off the skate of the Sharks’ Brennan Evans and into the net.

At 15:03 of the third period, the Sharks regained the lead when Brad Staubitz scored his first goal of the season, with Mike Iggulden and Tom Walsh getting the assists.

After a scoreless overtime, the game went into a shootout. All four shooters for the P-Bruins were unable to score, while Iggulden and Graham Mink scored for Worcester.

Andy Franck stopped 33 of 36 shots for the P-Bruins while Greiss made 24 saves for the Sharks. The P-Bruins were 1-for-5 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.

Providence is 15 points ahead of the second-place Hartford Wolf Pack and Portland Pirates. Sharks
