Pro Hockey P-Bruins 4, Tigers 3

PROVIDENCE — Jeff LoVecchio gave the Providence Bruins a 3-2 lead midway through the second period and they held on to defeat the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

Trevor Smith gave the Sound Tigers a 1-0 advantage only 12 seconds into the opening period.

The P-Bruins tied the game at one at the 4:36 mark. Mikko Lehtonen had the puck in the neutral zone and worked it down the boards for Zach Hamill. He found Jeff Penner in the far faceoff circle and his shot resulted in his first goal of the season.

Bridgeport regained the lead at the 11:02 mark when Greg Mauldin scored his fourth goal of the season.

Providence made it 2-2 at the 17:47 mark. LoVecchio had the puck at center ice and left it for Hamill. He fed Alain Goulet, who skated in and tallied his first goal of the season.

The P-Bruins took their first lead of the game at the 12:29 mark of the second period. Penner fired a shot that went off Jordan Knackstedt’s stick, before hitting LoVecchio and into the net.

The P-Bruins made it 4-2 at the 14:35 mark of the third period. Penner held the puck in the neutral zone and fed it to Hamill. He skated in and took a shot on net and Knackstedt was right there to redirect it into the goal for his first tally of the season.

Bridgeport’s Pascal Morency scored with one second left in the game, while shorthanded.

Dany Sabourin stopped 37 of 40 shots for the P-Bruins, while Scott Munroe made 24 saves for the Sound Tigers.
