PROVIDENCE -- Not much to report from Wednesday morning's practice at the Dunkin Donuts Center.

Jeff Penner still isn't skating, and today Kirk MacDonald joined Penner (lower body), Levi Nelson (collarbone) and Yannick Riendeau (shoulder) on the sidelines.

"(MacDonald) tweaked his groin a little bit [Tuesday],'' said coach Rob Murray. "He wanted to practice, but I told him not to, so he wouldn't make it any worse.''

Brett Clouthier is known for his fists, not his scoring touch. But the big left winger had some world-class snipes in practice the past couple of days, much to the delight of his teammates, who erupted in loud hoots and hollers in response to Clouthier's sharpshooting.

"He might have been practice player of the day,'' Murray said. "Hopefully, sooner or later, we'll have a chance to get him in the lineup.''

With three games in three nights this weekend, the time might be right for either Kevin Regan or Matt Dalton to see their first action of the season in goal on Saturday or Sunday.

"Dany (Sabourin) will play Friday and then we'll make a decision after that. We'll see. I haven't thought past Friday.''

Neither Matt Lashoff nor Martins Karsums made the Tampa Bay Lightning. Both are with Norfolk of the AHL. In a deal that's looking better for the Bruins each day, Tampa gave up Mark Recchi and a second-round pick in 2010 in exchange for Lashoff and Karsums at the trade deadline . . . Former Providence College star Matt Taormina is with Lowell . . . Jonathan Sigalet is with Syracuse. . . . Landon Wilson, an important cog in Providence's 1999 Calder Cup team, is with Texas . . . So is ex-Friar Trevor Ludwig.
