P-Bruins fall behind early and lose to Devils, 5-3

LOWELL, Mass. — The Lowell Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and never looked back, posting a 5-3 victory over the Providence Bruins Saturday night.
The P-Bruins got goals from Jamie Arniel, Mikko Lehtonen and Jeff Penner.
The Devils took a 1-0 lead 51 seconds into the opening period. Nathan Perkovich tallied his fifth goal of the season, while Vladimir Zharkov and Tyler Eckford recorded the assists.
Lowell went ahead, 2-0, at the 7:27 mark, while on the power play. Patrick Davis netted his third goal of the season, with Olivier Magnan picking up an assist.
The Devils scored their second power-play goal of the game at the 17:00 mark when Magnan notched his first goal of the season. Ben Walter and Zharkov had the assists.
The P-Bruins pulled to within two goals at the 13:15 mark, while on the power play. Lehtonen sent the puck into the zone for Matt Marquardt, who was halfway down the left boards. He made a pass to Arniel, who tallied his second goal of the season. Providence made it a one-goal game 40 seconds into the third period. Penner had the puck at the blue line and sent it down the boards for Arniel. He sent the puck toward the net, where Lehtonen picked it up and scored his sixth goal of the season.
Lowell regained its two-goal advantage at the 1:39 mark, while on the power play. Perkovich netted his second goal of the game and sixth of the season, with Eckford and Michael Swift getting assists.
The Devils made it 5-2 at the 6:46 mark. Walter tallied his sixth goal of the season, while Nick Palmieri and Eckford had the assists.
The P-Bruins finished the scoring at the 12:19 mark, while on the power play. Lehtonen carried the puck into the zone and passed it to Andy Wozniewski at the blue line. Wozniewski fed Penner along the near boards. Penner took a shot and the puck deflected off a Devils player in front of the goal and went into the net.
