Pawtucket Red Sox
PawSox 8, Red Wings 7
01:00 AM EDT on Saturday, August 2, 2008
THE HIGHLIGHTS: When Rochester built a 7-1 lead in the top of the eighth inning, a steady stream of fans began leaving McCoy Stadium.
They missed a great ending.
The PawSox hit three home runs in the bottom of the eighth and tied the score at 7-7. That set up a heroic at-bat for Pawtucket pinch-hitter Jeff Corsaletti (2-for-2, 2 runs scored, RBI). With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Corsaletti hit a walk-off home run to lift Pawtucket to a thrilling 8-7 victory.
Corsaletti had only had two hits in his previous 54 at-bats entering last night’s game.
Chris Carter and George Kottaras ignited the PawSox’ bats in the eighth by hitting back-to-back home runs.
ODDS and ENDS: Pawtucket relief pitcher Chris Smith was recalled to Boston prior to last night’s game to replace Craig Hansen, who was traded to Pittsburgh. The PawSox also lost outfielder Brandon Moss in the trade, and as a result, they are two under the roster limit with 22 active players … Carter returned to left field last night after seven consecutive games as the PawSox designated hitter.
