Red Wings 8, PawSox 6

01:00 AM EDT on Sunday, June 29, 2008

•THE HIGHLIGHTS: Matt Macri’s two-run, walk-off home run with one out in the 10th inning gave the Rochester Red Wings the win over the PawSox last night at Frontier Field. Macri blasted reliever Jon Switzer’s (3-1) 2-0 pitch over the left-field wall, capping a three-run inning. Jonathan Van Every’s home run in the top half of the 10th gave Pawtucket a 6-5 lead before the Red Wings comeback. The loss snapped Pawtucket’s eight-game winning streak, denying the PawSox’ bid to tie a franchise record with nine consecutive wins.

Pawtucket starter Charlie Zink received a no decision for his second straight start. The knuckleballer allowed five runs on nine hits in six innings of work. Zink walked three and struck out four.

Reliever Mike Timlin made his second appearance for the PawSox since joining them on a rehab assignment earlier in the week. Timlin looked solid in a 1-2-3 seventh inning, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

•KEY OF THE GAME: Down, 5-3, heading into the ninth, the PawSox plated two runs to send the game into extra innings. After Van Every led the frame off with a strikeout, the next four batters were able to reach, including Joe Thurston driving in the first run of the inning with a triple off Rochester reliever Bobby Korecky.

•PROSPECT WATCH: With a single in the fourth inning, Jed Lowrie extended his hitting streak to eight games. The 24-year-old shortstop is hitting .333 (11-for-33) during the stretch. Lowrie also had a 14-game hitting streak that ended earlier this month.

•THEY SAID IT: “We thought we had it there for a little bit, but that’s how the game works sometimes,” Van Every said. “We’ve been playing really well lately, and we don’t like to lose at all. You can tell by the vibe in this clubhouse.”

•UP NEXT: The PawSox wrap up the three-game series with the Red Wings today at 1:30. Pawtucket will send right-hander Devern Hansack (3-8, 4.81) to the hill to face Rochester lefty Brian Duensing (4-7, 4.10).
