PAWTUCKET -- Jed Lowrie drilled two home runs Tuesday night, and nearly had a third, but it was not enough as the Pawtucket Red Sox lost to Lehigh Valley, 8-5, in 12 innings.

In his second game on rehab assignment from Boston, Lowrie homered to right-center in the first, to nearly the same spot where he hit one Monday night. In the third, he hit a drive over the foul pole in right that was narrowly foul, before hitting a routine fly ball to right. He hit a two-run homer into the Lehigh Valley bullpen in the fifth, walked in the seventh, and popped to short in the 10th before being removed by manager Ron Johnson.

"How about Jed Lowrie?'' asked Johnson. "He's swinging the bat really well. He's aggressive. You can tell he feels good right now with what he's doing. He's driving the ball from the left side and it's really good to see.''

Jeff Bailey and Aaron Bates also had home runs for Pawtucket. The four homers marked the first time all season Pawtucket has had more than two in a game.

The power was not enough. The IronPigs had home runs from J.J. Furmaniak and Rich Thompson. They won it with three unearned runs in the 12th on a walk, an error, a fielder's choice, an intentional walk to load the bases, a sacrifice fly, a hit batsman, a walk and an infield hit.

"We had some opportunities," Johnson said. “When your pitching keeps you in the game for 11 innings, you need to score runs. We couldn't do it.''
