Someday, Harrison would like to change his stripes

FOXBORO — In sports, there are very few exclusive clubs anymore. There’s baseball’s 40-40 club, which has just four members. There are just seven schools that have won back-to-back national titles in college basketball, and just eight NFL franchises that have won back-to-back Super Bowls.

But Rodney Harrison created a club all his own this season when he became the first player in NFL history to record at least 30 sacks and 30 interceptions in his career. Harrison has 33 picks in his 14-year career, and his sack of Miami’s Cleo Lemon last month brought his total to 30 ½. Only seven other players recorded at least 20 of each.

Harrison’s 30 ½ sacks are the most ever for a defensive back.

The last few seasons have had their share of ups and downs for Harrison, whom Tedy Bruschi has called the most physical player he’s ever had as a teammate. But Harrison is healthy and roaming the field the way he’s known for, with 24 tackles, two sacks, an interception and a forced fumble this year.

Here’s more about Harrison:

My first car: Was a Chevy Chevette. The passenger’s door was red [the rest of the car was not] and there was a hole in the floor on the passenger’s side that had wood and carpet over it.

The last album I bought or downloaded: Probably Kenny Lattimore and Chante Moore’s “For Lover’s Only.”

My favorite off-day activities: Really relaxing — getting a massage, putting my feet on the bed watching TV.

My guilty pleasure: Is chocolate-chip cookies. Fresh baked. Nestle Toll House. I could eat thousands of them.

My hero: Jesus.

The last movie I saw: American Gangster.

My favorite childhood memory: Was beating up on the bully in our neighborhood. I finally got up the nerve. It’s crazy, but true. One of my best friends told me, “Stick and move, stick and move,” and that’s what I did. After that, (the bully) gave me all the respect in the world.

When I retire I want to do: Lots. Lots. Get my car business, that’s an aspiration of mine. Do some NFL officiating, do some radio. (Harrison took part in a league officiating internship a couple of years ago, and said he loved it.) You get a chance to be around the game, be able to experience the game, love and respect it and not have to be away from your family 10 to 12 hours a day.
