No excuses not to find tomorrow’s game on TV
12:13 PM EST on Friday, December 28, 2007
FOXBORO — After the NFL made the surprise and unprecedented decision on Wednesday to let both NBC and CBS simulcast tomorrow’s Patriots-Giants game to ensure that fans who do not receive NFL Network would be able to watch the game as well, it was hailed by those who would be able to enjoy the historic game in their homes as usual.
But for Bill Belichick, having New England on three networks — four if you’re a Boston or New York resident as the local ABC affiliate will simulcast it as well— it might be a bit of overkill.
A kind of overkill generally reserved for a higher power than himself and his football team.
“It will be like the State of the Union address — you can flip to every channel and see it,” Belichick joked yesterday.
It is the first time since Super Bowl I, then called the AFL-NFL World Championship, that a game will be simulcast on more than one network. For the Jan. 15, 1967, title game between the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs, the game was carried on NBC and CBS.
Asked about the move, Belichick pointed out the obvious: “I’m not planning on watching it.”
Quick kicks…
Three players didn’t take part in practice for New England yesterday, which was held inside the Dana-Farber Fieldhouse: Nick Kaczur (foot), Kyle Brady (foot) and Kyle Eckel (stomach). Tom Brady (right shoulder), Benjamin Watson (ankle), Willie Andrews (elbow), Rodney Harrison (thigh), Stephen Neal (shoulder), and Billy Yates (shoulder) were all limited.
