FOXBORO –– Further confirming that Tom Brady will be ready to go on Sunday, the Patriots yesterday removed him from the injury report –– for his right foot and his always-troublesome right shoulder.
Early Wednesday, WEEI reported that Brady had a cracked bone in his foot. Llater that night, Tom Brady Sr. told Boston media outlets that he hadn’t been told of a broken bone.
“He did tell us that he had stress on the bone, and that’s why he wore a (protective) boot for a day — one day,” Brady Sr. said. “He has never told us that he has any broken bones or fractured bones in his foot.
He added that his son was “champing at the bit” to get back on the field.
Head coach Bill Belichick told Kansas City media on Wednesday that he expects Brady to play against the Chiefs.
When today’s report comes out, teams are required to list players as probable (75 percent chance of playing), questionable (50 percent), doubtful (25 percent) or out. Brady has been listed as probable due to his right shoulder every week for at least the last four years.
But Brady has never missed a start, and it seems clear that he won’t miss this week’s, meaning his streak will continue — 128 games since taking over as the starter.
Also on yesterday’s participation report: Russ Hochstein (groin), who was reported to have limited participation on Wednesday, yesterday was upgraded to full participation, a good sign for the offensive line. If Hochstein can play without limitation, he will likely start, with Billy Yates as the backup.
Kicker Stephen Gostkowski missed practice yesterday, and the team reported that his absence was not injury-related. Also not participating yesterday were Sam Aiken, Dan Connolly, Benjamin Watson and Le Kevin Smith, all of whom are listed as having knee injuries.
Everyone’s relative?
When Jarvis Green mentioned to his fellow defensive linemen in a recent meeting that he’s a distant cousin of Kansas City rookie Glenn Dorsey, Green’s teammates laughed at him.
Green, it seems, is related to everyone –– or at least every NFL player –– from Louisiana. Howard Green plays for Seattle and Skyler Green is on the Saints’ practice squad. Dorsey, the fifth overall draft pick last April, will likely start at right defensive tackle for the Chiefs against the Patriots. He missed some time in the preseason with a knee sprain. Because of that, the Patriots don’t have a lot of film on him outside of his days at Louisiana State.
“From what we saw in college, he’s an athletic guy for his size, a real strong, physical player with good initial quickness,” Belichick said of Dorsey.
Transactions
The Patriots announced a couple of transactions yesterday as they flip-flopped tight ends on the roster: gone is Jason Pociask, claimed off waivers on Sunday, and back is Stephen Spach, who was released to make room for Pociask. It’s not a good week for Pociask, who said he was surprised to have been cut by the Jets.
New England also signed punter Reggie Hodges to the practice squad and released tight end Tyson DeVree. Hodges spent training camp with Seattle.
Squib kicks
When receiver C.J. Jones was congratulated yesterday for earning a spot on the 53-man roster, he replied with a huge grin and a thank-you. Jones is out of practice-squad eligibility, meaning for him it was make the roster or turn the page on his NFL dream. Unfortunately, he may not stick, as Jones is on the list of those likely to be released when Kevin Faulk returns from a suspension. … CNBC’s Squawk Box will be broadcast live from Gillette Stadium beginning at 6 a.m. today.
