Patriots 48, Dolphins 28: Light could face suspension for fight with Crowder
09:25 PM EST on Sunday, November 23, 2008
MIAMI – It’s a bit early to know for sure, but the New England Patriots could very well be without their Pro Bowl left tackle next Sunday when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Matt Light was ejected from the game against Miami when he and linebacker Channing Crowder engaged in some fisticuffs after a 30-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski, and might be suspended for his actions.
After the kick was away, Dolphins linebacker Matt Roth shoved Russ Hochstein backwards into Light, who was tangled up with Crowder. Crowder’s helmet came off as he and Light were engaged, and after each man shoved the other under the chin, Light appeared to grab Crowder’s dreadlocks and started hitting him in the back of his head.
Crowder strolled away from the incident smiling, and was still smiling as he walked back toward the locker room after being ejected by referee Alberto Riveron.
After the game, Light was escorted to the team bus by New England’s head of security, who kept reporters at bay.
With Light gone, Mark LeVoir finished the game at left tackle.
It was not a good day for the Patriots’ offensive linemen. Of the six penalties the team was flagged for, all of them were on members of the unit.
