Patriots 48, Dolphins 28: Gaffney remains productive despite Moss' monster day
09:28 PM EST on Sunday, November 23, 2008
MIAMI -- Jabar Gaffney was one of the few bright spots for New England in its first meeting with the Dolphins, and figured to be a factor again in Miami, particularly if Randy Moss was double-covered all afternoon, as he has been for much of the season.
While the Dolphins made the curious decision to keep single coverage on Moss for much of the afternoon – prompting the potential Hall of Famer to say several times after the game that Miami coach Tony Sparano “disrespected” him by doing so – Gaffney still had a positive outing, with five catches for 88 yards.
“Any time teams want to take Randy out of the game it’s up to the other receivers to (step in),” he said. “The last few weeks, Matt (Cassel) has been making great reads.”
Gaffney has the majority of his season’s production over the last two games: he has 28 grabs for 328 yards total, with 12 receptions and 174 of those yards coming against the Jets and Dolphins.
