New England Patriots
Harrison's personality matter of perspective
01:00 AM EST on Sunday, December 31, 2006
FOXBORO -- Rodney Harrison is two different men. There's On-Field Rodney Harrison, known for delivering hard hits and has been voted by fellow players as the dirtiest player in the NFL. Then there's Off-Field Rodney Harrison, known for carrying the Bible with him, being a great teammate and leader, and devoted husband and father. His wife Erika is expecting their second son in a couple of weeks.
In his 13th season, Harrison, 34, was rounding into form this season after a devastating knee injury last year when he suffered another setback. The Pats' captain suffered a broken scapula against the Colts that put him back on the shelf for a half-dozen games.
But Harrison hasn't lost his love for the game, and said this week he isn't yet ready to retire. When he does, he will do so with a singular honor: Harrison is the only defensive back in NFL history with at least 25 sacks and 30 interceptions; his 28 1/2 sacks are the most ever for a defensive back.
Here's this week's Who I Am:
Three things I believe: In God, family and friends.
My favorite off-day activity: I like to play golf.
(What about when it's cold?): I like to sit in the house and watch a movie or play Madden. (Harrison recently beat Tully Banta-Cain to win the team Madden championship.)
My first CD: Toni Braxton, her first album.
My first concert: Janet Jackson in San Diego, around 1998 or '99. I've told my wife if I didn't marry her, I'd marry Janet.
My first car: It was a Chevy Chevette with a red door. The passenger's door. It had a hole in the floor in front of the passenger's seat, and we had wood and carpet over it; if you moved them, you'd look right at the ground.
The last time I cried: Was a week ago at the Will Smith movie, The Pursuit of Happyness.
My favorite meal: Pizza. (What kind?) Sausage pizza from Arrenello's in Chicago. It's the best in the world.
If I wasn't in the NFL: Initially in college my major was pre-med, so probably something helping people, as a counselor or in the medical field. Or law.
One job I'd never want to have: Head football coach. Too many hours.
