Patriots' Colvin embraces the work ethic
01:00 AM EST on Sunday, December 3, 2006
FOXBORO -- Rosevelt Colvin believes in hard work in all aspects of his life. The 29-year-old outside linebacker worked to become a top young defensive player in Chicago, and worked to come back from a fractured left hip just months after signing with New England as a free agent.
And despite a base salary of $3.65 million this season, Colvin does the yard work around his home, and he did the minor construction work when he turned his home office into a walk-in closet for his wife during the bye week this year.
A devoted father of four, Colvin has been solid of late, with 22 of his 42 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks and 15 quarterback hits (seven on Peyton Manning in the game against Indianapolis) over the last four games.
Here's this week's Who I Am.
Three things I believe: In God; in love; and that I can be the best I can be if I try.
My favorite off-day activity: Oh, man. Sleeping.
My first CD: 2Pac, Cradle to the Grave.
My first concert: Michael Jackson in Indianapolis at what was then Market Square Arena. I was around 10.
My first car: I still have it. It's a 1989 Jeep Cherokee, sky blue. My dad bought it for $500 and it's been rolling ever since. I use it as a work truck at the house.
My siblings: I have a sister, Rose. She's four years older than me.
The last time I cried: Significantly? It was the end of 2003, beginning of '04, when I was able to go back to my church in Chicago (when he was recovering from the hip injury). I felt so much joy and happiness.
My favorite meal: Breakfast. All day. Sausage, bacon, pancakes, eggs -- anything breakfast.
If I wasn't in the NFL: I don't know. That's hard. My degree (from Purdue) is in industrial technology, so hopefully in a management position within the industry.
A job I wouldn't want to have: A full-time mother. My wife (Tiffany) does a great job taking care of our house, but it's tough; it's stressful. And you still have to look pretty.
