Judge Williams has ego problems

01:00 AM EDT on Sunday, June 19, 2005

The Frank Williams saga con

tinues, fueled by an ego of gigan

tic proportions, and growing day

by day. I don't like the guy, yet I

feel sorry for him. He needs pro

fessional help.

His latest "how-great-I-am"

dog-and- pony show was a real

hoot ("Williams: Judiciary under

seige," news, June 11). Does he

not know that he has become

the laughingstock of the lawyer

community, and not just in

Rhode Island?

Can you believe that he gave

credit for separation of powers

to General Assembly leaders --

the same guys who gave him ab

solute power over the state judicial system's budget?

No credit was given to our gov

ernor, The Journal, talk-show

hosts, civic organizations and

others who fought the good

fight.

Was it any surprise that a jury

of Mr. Williams's subordinates voted in his

favor when the guy is spear

heading a campaign to raise

their already obscene compensa

tion by an obscene amount?

Why does he speak as

if his life were in danger? Ego at

its highest.

As for lawyer Keven McKen

na's not having standing to chal

lenge Mr. Williams under the

state constitution: Nonsense. He is

an officer of the court. If not

him, who?

I'm prepared at a moment's

notice to debate Mr. Williams on

any of the above, and especially

his sad performance in the sea

shore-access case before he be

came chief justice.

I would allow Mr. Williams to

bring along all his court jesters,

clerks, files, etc. I will only bring

my Joe-Six-Pack common-sense

brain. He will lose.

I wonder if any of the folks

who sat on his final selection

committee remember my testi

mony against Mr. Williams.

What do they think now?
