Catherine B. Wilhelm: Frightful insult
01:00 AM EDT on Thursday, July 2, 2009
How dare Froma Harrop malign the medical profession, and gastroenterologists in particular, by her reckless description of endoscopy: “have an endoscope shoved down your throat with a risk of puncturing the upper GI tract” (“A Texas-size medical lesson,” Commentary, June 11).
This very delicate procedure — which I have experienced comfortably — is done with gentle and expert care and concern.
Froma Harrop has most assuredly scared off many patients for whom this procedure is necessary, and at the same time insulting the medical profession.
Shame on her.
