Karen Pendleton: Plantation silliness
01:00 AM EDT on Friday, May 9, 2008
It is beyond belief that all our lawmakers have to do is to worry about the name of our state. Surely there are more pressing matters to contemplate than that the word Plantations in the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations reminds someone of slavery.
Changing the name will not change history. All the slaves are dead and all the slave owners are dead.
Can we move on to matters that we can do something about, please?
