Thomas McDonnell: ‘We are not amused’
01:00 AM EDT on Monday, July 6, 2009
In connection with your April 14 editorial “Royal reform,” I agree the English monarchy needs reform but you have the direction wrong.
Consider this: We in the colonies have a Congress that is in large part paid for by Wall Street bankers. On the odd day they sit before their Congress looking contrite, leaving with billions more and still offering advice. By evening they continue to fund Congress. Now imagine Her Majesty with power, she could summon Wall Street to stand before her and the throne and say “Gentlemen, we are not amused, you are dismissed.”
Being a charitable women, that is all she would do to them. No, any new reform should put spine into the monarchy and after that we should strike the New from New England and ask Mom to take us back.
