Letters to the editor
Changed my mind
01:00 AM EDT on Wednesday, June 6, 2007
I am writing this letter in response to the May 24 article “Medical marijuana bill passed.”
I had previously thought that it was impractical to legalize marijuana for patients with a debilitating disease. Like Governor Carcieri’s spokesman, I realized that the use of marijuana was still federally illegal, and legalizing the drug for patients would only promote the drug trade.
However, I now agree with Pamela Bailey, in that if marijuana helps to ease any of the excruciating pain that these patients are experiencing, it is inhumane not to allow for it.
