William Cotton: Buying from drug dealers

Bobby Ebert’s struggle to find a reliable supply of his medicine is a familiar story for those of us in the Rhode Island Medical Marijuana Program (“For more than 300 Rhode Islanders, marijuana provides legal relief,” Sept. 9).
I live with multiple sclerosis. When I search for my legal doctor-recommended marijuana, I fear being attacked on the streets as Mr. Ebert was.
Rather than force seriously ill Rhode Islanders like me to find drug dealers to relieve our suffering, the General Assembly should develop a system of regulated pharmacies where we can safely get medicine.
Our state’s Medical Marijuana Act gives me some peace, but not having safe and reliable access is distressing to me.
