Can R.I. corruption finally be crushed?
01:00 AM EDT on Sunday, May 13, 2007
If you wanted to find out what happened at the Operation Clean Government forum on corruption in Rhode Island on May 5, you would have to read Russ Olivo’s column in The (Woonsocket) Call. Gregory Smith’s May 6 story, “Panel on corruption looks at Buddy,” was a disgrace and just bad journalism. Readers would conclude that the forum was all about Buddy, when discussions about him took only several minutes of the 90-minute long forum.
You owed it to the people of Rhode Island to provide accurate professional coverage of the forum, which encompassed wide-ranging discussions of corruption in Rhode Island politics.Your coverage of the forum makes this reader wonder just where The Journal stands on this problem, which has plagued state politics for years.
