Patrick T. Conley: I will write Carcieri regime’s history

01:00 AM EST on Sunday, December 14, 2008

Hooray for Rhode Island’s proposed coastal wind farm! It will generate cheap, clean electrical energy — out of sight. Too bad the current $1.5 billion deal failed to generate clean, ethical conduct. The local lawyer for the company selected by Governor Carcieri was his long-time chief-of-staff. What a coincidence! Will attorney Jeff Grybowski’s fee be nominal or phenomenal?

Incompetence is forgivable, and the governor has displayed plenty of that unfortunate disability at Old Stone Bank and the State House. Cronyism is much less tolerable, especially when it is a hallmark of one’s governmental tenure.

A recent political poll has indicated that Governor Carcieri’s approval rating stands at 39 percent. That figure is 38 points too high. I can hardly wait to write the history of the Carcieri administration for posterity. My assessment will take the wind from his sails!
