Marijuanaphobia
01:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, June 12, 2007
What is it about the lowly marijuana plant that evokes such venom? In his June 3 letter (“Brain up in smoke”), Paul Maziarz lambastes our lawmakers for legalizing the use of marjuana to treat diseases, pointing out a study that concluded (drum roll, please!) that it’s probably not a good idea to smoke marijuana while pregnant.
Mr. Maziarz is probably not familiar with the many drugs that are used to treat diseases but are contraindicated, or used with caution, during pregnancy. The list is long.
