Susan R. Berge: Afraid of a book?

01:00 AM EDT on Wednesday, August 27, 2008

The summary for the Aug. 15 article “Obama’s rebuttal hits back at critical author” states (presented as fact rather than the anonymous author’s opinion): “A best-selling book is filled with innuendo and rumors about the presidential candidate.”

The book, of course, is Jerome Corsi’s The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality. Critics of Dr. Corsi call him a liar, a shill for Bush-Cheney, etc. Dr. Corsi is not a Republican and does not support McCain.

The only book I’ve read by him is The Late, Great USA, which I found to be incredibly well-researched and well-documented. No one who has actually read the book could ever claim that Dr. Corsi carries water for the Bush administration.

I have not yet read The Obama Nation, but I will read it with an open mind and judge for myself whether Dr. Corsi’s reporting is well-substantiated.

If The Obama Nation is anything like The Late, Great USA, the hysterical reaction of the Obama camp and its advocates in the media is understandable. Dr. Corsi is an excellent and very thorough researcher, and the Obama camp should be concerned if there are certain things revealed in the book that they would prefer people not to know.
